From a Giveaway to a Keepsake: A Whimsical Indoor Wedding Painting Journey
There’s something really magical about watching a sketch transform into a full-color memory, and this recent painting honestly shocked me and was one of my favorites yet.
There’s something really magical about watching a sketch transform into a full-color memory, and this recent painting honestly shocked me and was one of my favorites yet.
I had the honor of painting a wedding scene for a very special giveaway winner when I decided on a whim to hit the Instagram family with a fun challenge. From the moment Amanda shared her vision, I knew it would be a joy to bring to life. Her requests? Whimsy and light — two of my favorite things to paint.
Yet, the scene took place indoors at St. Thomas Preservation Hall in Wilmington, NC. Indoors has always been a bit of a challenge for me as an artist. Unlike natural light, organic shapes, and open skies, indoor spaces require a different kind of attention. How the light moves through windows, the colors bouncing off walls, the details that bring intimacy to life, and maintaining the structure of a building while playing with my more loose and impressionistic style. But this painting truly pushed my skills in the best way possible. I learned so much during the process and left feeling more inspired than ever to take on indoor weddings with even more color, confidence, and creativity. Honestly, I can’t wait for the next one.
The absolute best part? Getting to meet Amanda in person for a drink and the big reveal at Wine Knot Sky Bar. Her reaction was everything: joyful, emotional, unforgettable. It reminded me exactly why I do what I do.
These are the moments that make live wedding painting so meaningful. It’s not just about capturing a scene, it’s about telling the story of a day, a feeling, a memory that deserves to live on forever. She described to me what that wedding day felt like to her and gave me some reference photos that weren’t capturing the essence of that moment. To be able to recreate the scene as she remembered it, exactly as it felt, was really so special.
If you're dreaming of your own whimsical wedding painting, indoor, outdoor, or anything in between, I’d love to bring it to life for you.
